M&S ‘Found’ wine range: Are you ready for an adventure?
M&S have a new wine range called Found. Are you feeling adventurous?
We all have wines that we know are just going to hit the spot, but since learning more about wine, I’m all about the excitement of trying something new. I am curious about rare grape varieties and paths less trodden... even if a wine slightly misses the mark, I still feel buzzed that I’ve had a new wine experience.
M&S have got a great new range called Found, which features wines from lesser-known regions (all vegan and sustainable), made from rare and forgotten grape varieties. I got sent a few wines from the range to sample - read on to see what I thought of them!
I start my adventure with the Blanquette de Limoux NV (£10), a vibrant, fresh-flavoured sparkler from the Languedoc region of France. Blanquette means ‘little white’ and it’s the nickname for the Mauzac grape, which has characteristics of crunchy green apple and cut grass. This is fantastic value for a Traditional Method wine!
My next stop is Romania, to try the Fetească Regală 2020 (£7). The name means ‘royal maiden’ because of its delicacy and elegance. It’s lovely and aromatic, with notes of apple blossom and green orchard fruits. An off-dry, summery treat, it brings flavours of juicy white peach and honey to the palate. Yum.
Lastly, I get to taste the Mazuelo 2019 (£8.50) from Rioja. Also known as Cariñena, Mazuelo is a forgotten grape variety - it’s been grown in Rioja for hundreds of years but today it only makes up 3% of the vineyard area. When you taste it, you’ll realise why M&S are championing this variety, with its juicy, concentrated flavours of blackcurrant and black cherry, all held together with nice structure and acidity.
M&S have done a great thing with the Found range because lesser-known grape varieties and regions actually offer incredible value for money. There’s always a time and a place for our old trusties but I think it’s definitely worth taking yourself off on a wine expedition and seeing what you find.
