Skin + Pulp is run by Sophia Longhi, certified wino, writer, teacher, taster and adventurer.
Having studied writing and literature, Sophia went on to qualify as a teacher, but after travelling the world, she realised her fate lay outside of the classroom. She spent most of her working life in different areas of the media industry, before finding herself writing about restaurants - and then truly discovering wine.
Sophia found the WSET programmes opened up an otherwise secretive world and she quickly developed a passion for demystifying wine for the majority of people out there. Wine has connected people for millennia and it continues to do so on many more levels than at first apparent. Knowledge about wine is currency and it can be spent at the dinner table or at the boardroom table, to get ahead socially or in business. But, more than anything, everyone should have the chance to enjoy wine, regardless of background, gender or whether or not they own a pair of red trousers. The more you know about a piece of art, the more you understand and appreciate it - even when it might not be to your taste. The same goes for wine - and that is empowering.
Most of the time, you won’t find the answer at the bottom of a bottle, but maybe you will if the question is wine.
