'What is Provence to you?', asks Château Gassier with their new Esprit Gassier 2019 vintage

Provence rosé is undoubtedly a style, but within that style, you have a sea of different expressions. This is no one-dimensional wine. You have the fun, flirty, pink-frilly-knickers kind; you have the fresh, racy, sea winds whipping-your-hair-back-and-forth kind; you have the classy, exquisitely-mannered kind, with hidden mineral depths. Esprit Gassier 2019 can be all things to all, but to me, it is the latter.

Showing the elegance of Provence, this rosé is more than your strawberries and cream; I was seduced first by a heady bouquet of white flowers. Fruit came from redcurrant, peach, watermelon, nectarine, orange pulp and peel, but the finish was savoury and mineral, expressing the unique terroir of Sainte-Victoire. Eroded parts of the mountain created soils of limestone, pebble, clay and sand.

The limited edition 2020 bottles depict six beautiful silk screened scenes of Provence: a spur of the moment boat trip; an afternoon party in the mountains; chilling with friends in the shadow of a van; an afternoon with friends by the pool; a bicycle ride through the lavender fields and daydreaming on a swing at the beach. Gassier have captured the ‘spirit of Provence’ and, whatever Provence is to you, they invite you to #MakeItYours.
